Score 25:

TO PEOPLE ON THE WAY, PEOPLE ARE NOT IN THE WAY

History without movement does not exist. Curiosity draws people out of the familiar and into the unexplored:

somewhere far away they are talking about something, over there they are doing something unusual. They have something that we don’t know here.

And here we have something of our own. The exchange of goods, ways and knowledge, keeps people in motion: we may lose a match on the way,

leave broken pots by the fireplace, pierce an earring or an unpronounceable word into our tongues, improve our nail filing technique.

Someone else digs it up, buys it, makes a cult of their own – a clock ticking in a slightly altered rhythm… Sometimes people find a comfortable spot:

we stand for a while, someone else joins in, one takes a chalk and out of boredom draws a circle around the group … suddenly everyone seems unable

to get out, and no one else in either. So we invent a ritual to make the invisible wall a membrane. It works for a while, it enables us to pass through.

Then, one day, children under the block are playing ‘stealing land’ game again.

They throw pebbles and jump into impossible poses, until finally a storm washes away the last of the pebbles on the asphalt.

The emerging map sometimes stutters … and only unaided wall-less vision knows that space cannot be an obstacle –

ANYONE CAN TAKE A STEP IN ANY DIRECTION AT ANY TIME.

(Performance took place as a part of the celebration of opening the former Slovenian-Italian border in Nova Gorica, Slovenia.

No Photos were taken at the event, due to the presence of some migrants.)
