My name is Radharani Pernarčič, I am a freelance artist from Slovenia, who interlaces the fields of performance, literature and visual arts. I graduated from cultural anthropology (Faculty of Arts, Ljubljana, Slovenia, 2005) and contemporary dance and choreography (SNDO, AHK, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, 2007). Since then I have been moving between different media and continuously explored hybrid formats (installations, performances, interventions, exhibitions, books etc) which I merge under the joint production-artistic name AniRadar.
My entire work is based on a long-standing engagement with somatic practices, sensorial work, improvisation and exploration of the role of humor in tackling socially critical themes. My artistic language and aesthetics move in a wide range, from subtle, detailed, poetic and fine-tuned, to raw, intense and critically direct expression. I am interested in creating space for the emergent, thus, as a method, I often build conditions (tasks and imaginary) which challenge the implicit taken-for-granted perceptions and evoke different experience(s). By and large,
my entire opus is imbued with humanistic focus and characterised by the question of how to awaken the spectators’ sentient bodies: embodied awarenss.
2013-2020 I was engaged in an artistic-reasearch project At the permanent address of our endeavour with DISCOllective (Gregor Kamnikar), in which we explored haptic/kinesthetic sense and how to transform (public or intimate) spaces through playfulness – as the method and the objective. For this reason we developed numerous interactive scores and moved from clasic formats of performances to performative installations. We often accompanied visual exhibition with movement, in collaboration with galleries, such as e.g. at the Jakopič Gallery, the Simulaker Gallery, Slovenia, MSUM Novi Sad, Serbia, etc. I also collaborated with various visual artists. (e.g. Allesandro di Giampetro, Darko Dragičević, Mihaela Ciuha, Majda Gregorič etc.). Between 2004-2007 I also worked intensely with the sculptor Eddy Ross on his exploration of two female figures in motion. Since 2015 I have also been a joint member of the art collective Cirkulacija2 (Ljubljana).
During 2009–2012, as a researcher at the anthropology department (University of Ljubljana, Slovenia), I conducted a series of anthropological-somatic workshops in collaboration with universities across Europe. In 2012 I founded SENSEncePICNIC (an independent platform for the practical exploration of kinesthetic intelligence, cognition, senses and perception) and until 2020 taught regular classes of somatic practice within that frame. This work focus later brought me into communication with the Finnish writer and architect Juhani Pallasmaa.
In the field of literature, I write poetry, essays and dance critiques. I have published three books of poetry (the 2nd, Bull-roarer, was nominated for Jenko’s award, the 3rd, Skalpel za sanjsko membrano, was awarded as The best self-published book 2022). Often my poetry was published in Slovenian and international literary magazines and anthologies, and has been translated into many languages (English, Polish, Czech, Catalan, Hebrew, Bulgarian, etc.). My poems have also been set to music by Fake Orchestra and Andraž Polič, while in 2014 with Mario Babojelić we formed a band Icy Noctiluca in which we explored the potentials of poetic-musical creation.
I am currently engaged in two simultaneous long-term projects, The Fancyclopedia of Castro Fik Arka and Pavilion of embraces, of which one is more humorous and conceptual, and the other more poetic and socially oriented.
