Score No.11:
MADE OF VIEWS
THE SCORE
Usually, the performers would first create and then let others observe the created. This score turns the procedure around: observation IS the creating act.
The performers find their spot in the space and observe a composition of two chairs and a table. At a first glance, the setting is emptied of subjects and
events. Yet, these gradually reveal and emerge out of “dead objects”, as the performers (well, “anti-performers”) observe the angels of chairs, distances
between them, different types, juxtaposition with other objects in space, etc., and try to figure out what subjects “sit” there – in their invisible presence,
mediated through spatial traces. How many subjects are there? Of what gender? What is their relation? What is the context? What is going on, what are
they talking about? Are they talking right now? What is the dynamic, the atmosphere between them? How do they feel? … After a while, the observers
proceed in stages, by slightly changing the beginning composition – first changing an angle of one chair, observe again; then changing another
spatial element, observe; and so on. The tiniest variations give rise to so many different stories. The stories of the reading and meaning-making.
The stories of mixed-agency between man and objects.
